Something To Us

Words and photos by Westley Denbaugh

Summer was in full swing and there was a definite need to occupy my free time. After careful planning, my buddy devised a two-week trip which would take the four of us through Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and eventually back down through California. Being on the road for this long makes it easy for time to slip away; you’re still present and looking forward to the next destination while you’re simultaneously lost in the mix of everything around you. The landscape changes constantly and your view of it morphs into idea that comes out as some kind of analogy or metaphor. Looking at the world with this kind of mentality fosters a lot more than someone would believe regardless of their ability to comprehend it in the moment. You don’t need to understand it, just observe. It’s not something for anyone else. These photos are my best attempt (at the time) at trying to duplicate that vague but real feeling.
